According to the big data of e-commerce of the Ministry of Commerce of China, in the first half of 2019, the amount of aquatic products e-commerce orders reached 398 million, and the transaction value reached 16.946 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 22.9%. In 2018, the volume of China’s aquatic products e-commerce orders reached 558 million, and the transaction value reached 27.126 billion yuan, accounting for 1/3 of the fresh food e-commerce transaction volume.

In terms of trading categories, the top three categories in terms of transaction volume in 2018 were shrimp (5.074 billion yuan), crabs (4.709 billion yuan), and fish (4.106 billion yuan). The instant food and aquatic products ranked fourth with a transaction value of 3.869 billion yuan . In the first half of 2019, among the categories, the fastest growth rate was shellfish (42.5%), followed by dried aquatic products (34.7%).

Judging from the transaction volume of various tier cities, second-tier cities are the mainstay of aquatic product e-commerce transactions. In the first half of 2019, the transaction value reached 8.482 billion yuan, accounting for 50.05%. From the data of the first half of 2019, the growth rate of transaction volume in first-tier cities was only 19.3%, a significant decline, while the growth rates in third-tier and fourth-tier cities accelerated, reaching 24%. It can be seen that China’s aquatic products e-commerce consumption is showing a downward trend.
